How is the No Buy going?
The No Buy is going okay.
As I mentioned in my last post, I did purchase a couple eyeshadow palettes on Poshmark. In fact, I slipped up in April and bought quite a few things. My resolve weakened at a newly renovated Super Target. I ended up getting a summer dress, a couple glycerin-free lipsticks, and some highlighters.
At first I beat myself up for breaking my No Buy. But I decided to view it as a learning curve and lesson in what triggers me to buy things. It did help to reframe it in that way. It also made me more deeply examine why I was spending so much on makeup and clothing in the past. All-in-all, a very helpful exercise.
The Viseart palettes I got were because I’d been wanting them for over a year now and managed to find them at a great price on Poshmark. I was just starting Poshmark and was overwhelmed by the possibilities of finding glycerin-free makeup to fill the large gaps in my “new” makeup collection. I was also feeling like I was no longer able to do many of my go-to looks since I had very little makeup that was completely glycerin-free. So I basically panic-bought those palettes. But I don’t regret buying them because I love using them.
Now, for my Target purchase. Some of that was panic over how small my makeup collection now feels. Even though my goal is to have a much smaller collection than I used to, the sudden shift from how it used to be triggered a strong feeling of lack or scarcity. There was a time when I was a child that money and resources where super tight. It’s left a definite impact on me.
The lipsticks I bought are a few shade of red, in both bullet and liquid lipstick form. My favorite color of lipstick is red. I have gotten into the habit of wearing a red lipstick most days. And none of the red lipsticks I owned were glycerin-free. Did I need four glycerin-free red lipsticks? No, but I wanted all of them. I’m glad I have them, but I wish I had slowly bought them over time.
While clothing is on my No Buy list, I am glad I broke it for this dress. It’s retro-looking, nice and lightweight for summer, and it has pockets. I’ve actually been trying to find something like this since last summer.
I did slip up again recently. A small slip. Because I finally found not one, but TWO drugstore brand mascaras that are glycerin-free! And one of them is a brown mascara. I’ll be posting reviews of them soon. I want to test them out for a week each first. I’ll let you know how that goes.
Are you doing a No Buy this year? How is it going for you?
