Hello!

Welcome to my blog about living glycerin free and being an awesome stay-at-home cat mom.

Why not just pitch what I’m currently using and buy the glycerin free one?

Why not just pitch what I’m currently using and buy the glycerin free one?

I’m trying to practice better spending habits. Which has meant joining the No Buy/Low Buy bandwagon. I’m not letting myself buy any new skincare or makeup staples until I use up what I already own. And I’ve got a stock pile for some of that stuff.

In the past I would have totally bought that glycerin free moisturizer as soon as I found it. I’m trying to be smarter about why and how I buy anything. Watching Hannah Louise Poston’s Youtube videos about her No Buy Year as been a big help. I’ve realized a fair amount of my buying came from avoiding boredom and wanting to make myself feel better.

I officially started my No Buy on January 1st, but had a soft start in the middle of December. It’s already made a huge difference in my spending. The only makeup I’m allowed to buy this year are things like mascara and eyebrow pencils. Even then, I can only buy replacements for what I’ve used up. For example, I just ordered a new black mascara. I’d used up all the full sized ones I had, as well as the sample sized ones. I can’t buy another black mascara until I’ve used up this new one.

I’m not allowed to buy any eyeshadow at all. There are 65 eyeshadow palettes of various sizes in my collection. I’ve got most every color covered. I don’t need any more eyeshadow until I’ve used up or decluttered most of my collection.

My goal is to get my makeup collection to fit into my train case. It’s going to take years to manage that, but I’m determined to make it happen. I’m playing and experimenting with my makeup a lot more in an effort to figure what I actually like on myself.

The No Buy is also making me take a hard look at the ingredients lists of all the makeup I own. I’ve only found one thing that contained straight up glycerin in it. It was an old eyeshadow palette that I haven’t used in a very long time. However, most everything else contains at least one derivative of glycerin in them.

When it finally is time to start buying makeup again, everything new will have to be completely glycerin free. Most evenings you can find me scrolling through different makeup categories on the Sephora website, trying to find replacements for what I currently use. My Sephora Wishlist is full of makeup I’ve found that I want to try and is glycerin free.

Are you doing a No Buy? How is it going for you?
