What is a Stay-At-Home Cat Mom?
As I am currently not employed, I tell people I’m a stay-at-home cat mom. I take care of the house and our two girls, Tavi and Parker. These two cats are like my children. I love them to bits, even when they’re trying to wake me up to feed them at 3 in the morning.
I consider a stay-at-home cat parent to be someone who does not leave the house to work and so is able to devote more time to the care and loving of their feline companions. Also, I liked the sound of it better than Domestic Engineer or Homemaker. Both of those are perfectly fine names for someone whose job is to care for the home and any children, animal or human, that are part of the family. I call myself a Cat Lady, so it’s amusing and fun to label myself a stay-at-home cat mom.
I was fortunate to be able to leave my last job when major changes were made with very little warning. This time off as been very good for me health wise, both mental and physical. I’ve had one, maybe two migraines since I stopped working. I was having ones that lasted 36-48 hours every single month. I also have way less headaches in general.
I’m much happier as a stay-at-home cat mom. Tavi has enjoyed getting to spend more time with me. She’s always needed a lot of physically affection from me. I haven’t worked the entire time we’ve had Parker, so she doesn’t know any different. She’s my little lap kitty, and rarely is she far from me most of the day. In fact, she’s currently curled up on the couch next to me as I type this.
Being at home has allowed me to catch when one of them is not feeling like her usual self, and get her to the vet much quicker than I might have if I was still working. In between chores and errands and hobbies, I make time to snuggle and play with my girls. I’ve really gotten to know their personalities on a much deeper level. It’s enabled me to better interpret their different meows and body language.
I get a great deal of satisfaction being a stay-at-home mom to these two cats. Everyday I am awed at how full my heart feels with love for them. I am proud to be their mom.
