Hello!

Welcome to my blog about living glycerin free and being an awesome stay-at-home cat mom.

What’s in your Chocolate Milk?

What’s in your Chocolate Milk?

One of my favorite bedtime snacks is a glass of chocolate milk.

I will admit to being a bit fussy about what goes into that glass of chocolate milk. The milk must be Trader Joe’s Unsweetened Soy Milk or Silk Unsweetened Soy Milk. I’m lactose sensitive, so I avoid dairy milk, unless it’s for cheese and ice cream. I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and a family history of diabetes, so I try to avoid unnecessary sugar.

The chocolate syrup has to meet certain standards too.  I try to buy foods that aren’t overly processed. The simpler the ingredients the better. While I am a Trader Joe’s fan, their chocolate syrup does contain glycerin, probably as a sweetening agent.

I’ve been using Hershey’s Simply 5 Syrup for about a year now.  It adds plenty of chocolatey sweetness to my unsweetened soy milk, dissolves fully into the milk, and has a very short ingredient list with easy to pronounce ingredients.

On Tuesday my Sweetie found another option for me.  It’s Greenwise Organic Chocolate Flavored Syrup.  So it’s only available at Publix grocery stores.  I do like that it’s organic.  I try to buy organic for as much of my food and drink as possible. I haven’t actually tried it yet, so I’ll post an update once I can do an taste test to compare the two syrups.
